WEEK 8 (MMC 3; Roosevelt Roughrider Inv; Hughson Supercross; Bella Vista Bronco)

MMC CLUSTER 3 (Davis Park 3mi)
For the third time this season the seven MMC schools met to determine a piece of the league title. Surprises (?) The Modesto strong top five VGs (#1 in my most recent rankings) had their worst race of the season and were beaten by a very deep Downey team. In the VB race there was no real surprise as #1 ranked MoHi rolled over a resurgent Gregori team.

V GIRLS
Halfway through the race still a pack of 14 strong
It was Esmeralda Aguayo winning (going away) the first of what I suspect will be many future Cluster meets. The result show a virtual dual meet between Modesto and Downey--like two sparring heavy-weights.
Aguayo runs away from the pack

V BOYS
Orlando Cardenas cruised to the win for the third time this season. Jeremy Hart seems to be recovering from his injury from the end of track, to help a resurgent Gregori team.

ROOSEVELT ROUGH RIDER INV(Woodward Park--Fresno  5K)
Gregori, Grace Davis, and Riverbank were the competing StanCo teams over the same 5K course used for the State Championship. Although some Gregori athletes and teams did very well in the lower divisions, I am going to focus only on the Varsity races.

Small School VG
Ruvalcaba and Bernal had very good races for RBK, but when we compare the results with Hughson's from last Saturday's Clovis Inv the Huskies would have parked 6 runners in front of Riverbank's #3 racer. This certainly leaves the Bruins vulnerable at the coming TVL Championship meet.

6. Kim Ruvalcaba (Riverbank) 19:42
8. Stephanie Bernal (Riverbank) 20:20
34. Lydia Hodges (Riverbank) 22:05
57. Elitania Rosas (Riverbank) 22:55
75. Diana Herrera (Riverbank) 24:04

Small School VB
21. Ruben Paradez (Riverbank) 17:27
26. Eric Wise (Riverbank) 17:34
33. Michael Rodriguez (Riverbank) 17:52
54. Diego Ruiz (Riverbank) 18:19
66. Noah Glyn (Riverbank) 18:38

Large School VB
Jeremy Hart continues to recover nearly matching the performance of Santiago Ruiz. It is interesting to note that Gregori (missing their #4 runner) would have beaten RBK with these times in a head-to-head dual meet 25 to 28.

38. Santiago Ruiz (Gregori) 16:59.3
40. Jeremy Hart (Gregori) 17:02.0
99. Roman Franzia (Gregori) 17:48.2
133. Nathan Rodriguez (Gregori) 18:14.2
164. Hunter Jamison (Gregori) 18:40.6
179. Rafael Rojel (Gregori) 18:56.9
181. Louis Roach (Gregori) 18:57.1

HUGHSON SUPERCROSS
This is one of the more interesting courses as all divisions run the same 4K course that traverses multiple hay bales and wades through a mud pit (twice). Competing StanCo teams were Hughson, Central Valley, Ceres, Turlock, Pitman, Modesto, Orestimba, Oakdale, and Central Cathloic (note that many of these teams did not bring their full squads).

Given the odd distance and unusual course, the times aren't comparable to other events; but there still were some interesting comparisons to be made...Turlock girls (winner of the most recent CCC Cluster) were beaten soundly by Hughson girls (missing #6 runner). The TVL runner up Hughson boys also outscored the Turlock boys.  All are events that will have to be considered in the next Individual and Team StanCo rankings.

BELLA VISTA BRONCO (Folsom 5K)
Beyer was the only competing StanCo team in this difficult, huge preview meet of the Section Championship course.

Andrew Anderson--notice the rain--by Russell Cardozo

The only Beyer mark of note was the 17:23 time turned in by Andrew Anderson, which was good enough for 51st place in the Large Schools Varsity division.
