WEEK 5 (Patterson v Ceres, Pacific Tiger, Stanford)

This was a relatively quiet week with no cluster meets in the MMC, CCC, VOL, or TVL. Additionally there is no big invitational meet this weekend that is largely attended by StanCo teams. In fact this would be the perfect week to hold a Stanislaus County Championship meet. It is a hypothetical/dream of mine. Get all of the teams from StanCo together on one course to run in the same race at the same time...where to hold the meet...Legion Park...maybe but some teams/coaches hate that park, the MMC and the other leagues run two different courses, and neither course is particularly challenging. If not Legion then where? I am thinking that Ceres River Bluff Park might be a fresh/acceptable choice. Since this is all just a thought process I am open to any and all comments. Maybe if we all think hard enough about this idea it will become a reality.

CERES @ PATTERSON dual meet
For the first time in maybe 5 years I attended a dual meet. It certainly is a mellower atmosphere than the tenseness of the cluster meet competitions.

Virgen led from the gun
On the boys' side Tomas Virgen (one of StanCo's best) ran away from the field on his home course. In the team race it was all Patterson winning 18 to 44
1. Tomas Virgen (Patterson) 18:03
2. Kosi Ogbuli (Patterson) 18:51
3. Christian Linarez (Ceres) 18:54
4. Carlos Ponce (Patterson) 19:10
5. Sean Hicks (Patterson) 19:30

Trevino and Cisneros led the way
The girls' race was almost completely opposite. Ceres won 21 to 35 and it was Jennifer Cisneros of Ceres coasting in for the victory.
1. Jennifer Cisneros (Ceres) 23:44
2. Josephina Trevino (Ceres) 23:57
3. Ana Martin (Patterson) 25:02
4. Jennifer Herrera (Patterson) 25:02
5. Karina Torrez (Ceres) 25:34

PACIFIC TIGER
This invitational, run on the Elkhorn Golf Course, has turned into one of the larger meets in the section. With that said it is not highly attended by StanCo teams as most have chosen this weekend to rest and recover. Three StanCo teams took the opportunity to test their abilities over the 5K course (Beyer, Waterford, and Patterson)

On the girls side there were both small and large school divisions with Waterford and Patterson competing as small schools and Beyer as a large school.

112. Kelsie West (Patterson) 25:56

For the boys the divisions and competing teams were the same. Patterson placed 10th out of the 19 teams and Waterford was 15th. On the Large School side Beyer was 21st out of 27 teams.

RESULTS

STANFORD
No doubt this is a high caliber meet. For those runners that think the Sierra Inv is a "big meet," it is an eye-opening experience and frankly the magnitude can be a bit intimidating. The rule of thumb is, "if you don't get out fast--you are stuck." There is very little maneuver room in the crowded field. The two competing StanCo teams were some of the best of the MMC (Modesto and Downey).

Modesto acquitted itself very well finishing an admirable 8th of 37 teams. Downey is still young and learning. They placed 19th in the field (they were missing their #4 runner). Overall there were 254 runners.

Much thanks to the MoHi supporting parents for allowing me to use their photos--I am sure that everyone agrees that the photos always add to the story!

The top two girls teams in the MMC if not Stanislaus County (okay RBK is certainly in that mix) squared off on a neutral course. They would battle in a very crowed field of 238 runners acroos the compact Stanford golf course. Today Downey got the best of the two short-handed teams (each missing #2 their runners). The Knights placed 17th-435 and Modesto was 18th--495 out of the 33 teams. With their full compliment of runners I estimate both teams would have placed about 12th with about 390 pts.

24. Savannah Mendoza (Modesto) 19:25.7
39. Arielle Names (Downey) 19:49.7
63. Aryana Perillo (Modesto) 20:17.9
93. Haylee Osgood (Downey) 20:45.3

MISC
Some other non-StanCo runners competed. Why mention them you might ask...well their results might be useful for comparison purposes.
