2025 Track: PREVIEW of DIVISIONAL Meets and Qualifying for MASTERS

The Sac Joaquin Section track Divisional Championships are this week (starting tomorrow with D2 prelims). I have not done this very often, honestly it is time consuming, but I am going to give it a shot. This article is summarizing the StanCo distance athletes chances of qualifying on to Masters.

DIVISION 1
There are no StanCo athletes competing at the D1 level in track so no summary is needed.

DIVISION 2
The competing StanCo league is CCAL. The prelims are Tuesday and the Finals are Thursday. Both meets are at Vista del Lago HS in Folsom. The top 7 qualify from this meet to Masters.

VB 800
The competing StanCo athletes are Logan Petty, Colvin Hamel, Teddy Santos,Eli Scott, Dante Ron, Zayn Hamilton, Angel Soria, and Jadon Castro Zamora.
The at large qualifying mark for Masters is 1:57.62.

1. Hugh Heyer (McClatchy) 1:52.76
8. Logan Petty (Turlock) 1:58.76
15. Colvin Hamel (Pitman) 1:59.89
18. Teddy Santos (Turlock) 2:01.41

It will likely take 1:58 or lower to qualify. Petty obviously has the best chance of qualifying but he was ill at the CCAL meet. Hopefully improved health will produce a time necessary to move on.

VG 800
The competing StanCo runners are Mylie Olson, Nayeli Mattison, Montana Rodin, Ashley Diaz, Emerson Newton, Maguire Lima, Petra Navarro Jerner, and Jei Liv.
The at large qualifying standard is 2:20.95.

1. Veronica White (Christian Bros) 2:15.44
5. Mylie Olson (Turlock) 2:20.25
14. Nayeli Mattison (Pitman) 2:25.21
19. Maguire Lima (Turlock) 2:28.17

It will likely take 2:20 or lower to qualify. Olson should qualify.

VB 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Teddy Santos, Gabe Penwell, Eli Scott, Ivan Rodriguez, Jovani Franco, Logan Petty, Luke Oliveira, and Eli Pimentel.
The at large qualifying time is 4:24.75.

1. David Winston (Woodcreek) 4:14.67
6. Logan Petty (Turlock) 4:20.11
8. Teddy Santos (Turlock) 4:24.80

Reread the 800m section to see my concerns about Petty. Santos might not make the top 7 but I think he could hit the at large standard on a good night and thus qualify to move on.

VG 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Avery Carlson, Elle Williams, Aubrey Webb, Liz Christopher, Emerson Newton, Dorothy Arnold, and Aileen Roque.
The at large qualifying mark is 5:15.76.

1. Zoe Corder (Bella Vista) 4:58.92
2. Avery Carlson (Pitman) 4:59.41
5. Elle Williams (Turlock) 5:10.16
14. Aubrey Webb (Turlock) 5:24.89
19. Liz Christopher (Turlock) 5:35.12

Avery should qualify and may even win. If Elle is actually running this event she also should qualify. It could take sub 5:12 to get through. Given that is below the at large time more than 7 might get through.

VB 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Larson Wejmar, Cesar Bojorquez, Grant Fahrney, Ivan Rodriguez, Jovani Franco, Paul Cassiago, Luke Oliveira, and Gavin Flanders.
The at large qualifying mark is 9:26.36.

1. Owen Anderson (McClatchy) 9:07.94
4. Larson Wejmar (Turlock) 9:31.06
12. Cesar Bojorquez (Downey) 9:52.97
15. Paul Cassiago (Downey) 9:55.27
16. Ivan Rodriguez (Modesto) 9:56.93
20. Grant Fahrney (Gregori) 10:00.75

The race is likely to not be "all out." With some early lap tactics the bulk of the field might not PR. I am thinking the 9:42 could qualify. Larson should get in and the others will need big race PRs to get into the top 7.

VG 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Zoe Leach, Elle Williams, Avery Carlson, Aubrey Webb, Liz Christopher, Lilly Edgerton, Dorothy Arnold, and Eileen Roque.
The at large qualify mark is 11:14.78.

1. Zoe Corder (Bella Vista) 10:45.70
3. Avery Carlson (Pitman) 10:51.00
6. Zoe Leach (Downey) 10:53.47
12. Aubrey Webb (Turlock) 11:37.41
13. Liz Christopher (Turlock) 11:54.67
17. Lilly Edgerton (Turlock) 12:23.14

The top seven might all break 11...which might imply that more that 7 could go under the at large standard, but there is about a 20 sec gap between the #7 and #8 ranked girl. Avery, Zoe, and Elle all easily get through.

DIVISION 3
The competing StanCo league is the VOL. The prelims are Wednesday and the finals are Friday both at Golden Valley HS in Merced. The top seven will qualify for Masters.

VB 800
The competing StanCo runners are Ismael Dominguez, Jacob Cavanaugh, and Jonathan Palafox.
The at large qualifying mark is 1:57.62

1.  Cameron Mobley (Twelve Bridges) 1:53.32
8. Ismael Dominguez (Oakdale) 1:57.79
12. Jacob Cavanaugh (Oakdale) 2:00.23

Dominguez could qualify but he must run with his heart and it could require another PR.

VG 800
The competing StanCo runners are Kylie Fast, Bradie Evans, and Emma-Lynn Hogan.
The at large qualifying mark 2:20.95.

1. Khloe DeLaTorre (Vacaville) 2:12.01
11. Kylie Fast (Oakdale) 2:24.07
16. Bradie Evans (Oakdale) 2:26.55
18. Emma-Lynn Hogan (Central Catholic) 2:27.04

It will likely take sub 2:20 to qualify which would require a huge PR from any of the StanCo ladies.

VB 1600
The competing StanCo runner is Parker Whitemyer
The at large qualifying mark is 4:24.75.

1.  Jackson Stream (Vacaville) 4:12.18
14. Parker Whitemyer (Oakdale) 4:25.92

Is Whitemyer even going to run this race? Run faster than the at large mark and you qualify...Whitemyer could do that.

VG 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Natalie Arriaza and Addison Wylie
The at large qualifying mark is 5:15.76.

1. Khloe DeLaTorre (Vacaville)  4:48.95
2. Natalie Arriaza (Patterson) 4:58.96
18. Addison Wylie (Oakdale) 5:22.25

Arriaza will qualify even on and off day. Wylie should save her energy for the 3200.

VB 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Francisco Hernandez, Ismael Dominguez, Parker Whitemyer, and Sean Muturi.
The at large qualifying mark is 9:26.36.

1. Jackson Stream (Vacaville) 9:06.44
4. Parker Whitemyer (Oakdale) 9:21.62
9. Francisco Hernandez (Patterson) 09:30.86
13. Ismael Dominguez (Oakdale) 9:43.33
15. Sean Muturi (Oakdale) 9:52.64

Whitemyer qualifies. Hernandez needs a great race, maybe even a PR to get through.

VG 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Natalie Arriaza, Addison Wylie, Taylor reams, and Bradie Evans.
The at large qualifying mark is 11:14.78.

1. Natalie Arriaza (Patterson) 10:48.08
11. Addison Wylie (Oakdale) 11:28.10
19. Bradie Evans (Oakdale) 11:52.15

Arriaza qualifies, Wylie needs a PR day to have a shot to move on.

DIVISION 4
The competing StanCo league is WAC. This meet is Wednesday and Friday at Riverbank HS. The winner of D4 and the winner of D5 will qualify along with the next 4 fastest marks.

VB 800
The competing StanCo runners are Alex Mejia-Hidalgo and Sergio Torres
The at large qualifying mark is 1:57.62.

2. Alex Mejia -Hidalgo (Beyer) 1:58.35
3. Sergio Torres (Ceres) 2:00.15

It might take the 1:57 at large mark to assure that any D4 qualifies.

VG 800
The competing StanCo runners are Tyleah Badea, and Madison Viodes
The at large qualifying mark 2:20.95.

1. Tyleah Badea (Beyer) 2:20.43
9. Madison Viodes (Beyer) 2:38.35

Badea likely wins D4 and qualifies either way.

VB 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Alex Mejia-Hidalgo, Hayes Terry, Havyn Bartell, and Diego Cibrian.
The at large qualifying mark is 4:24.75.

1. Alex Mejia -Hidalgo (Beyer) 4:27.59
2. Hayes Terry (Beyer) 4:27.82
3. Havyn Bartell (Beyer) 4:29.49
4. Diego Cibrian (Grace Davis) 4:32.71

It will likely be a mad scramble to qualify with that at large mark being that magic number

VG 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Jymena Nguyen Marquez and Ava Medrano.
The at large qualifying mark is 5:15.76.

1. Brooklyn Ruzumovicz (Casa Robles) 5:22.85
2. Jymena Nguyen Marquez (Grace Davis) 5:30.91
4. Ava Medrano (Beyer) 5:36.28

I believe that only the winner from D4 advances with D5 taking all of the remaining spots

VB 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Hayes Terry, Havyn Bartell, Gabe Zamudio Melgar, and Yuushi Kennedy.
The at large qualifying mark is 9:26.36.

1. Hayes Terry (Beyer) 9:24.75
2. Havyn Bartell (Beyer) 9:37.75
4. Gabe Zamudio Melgar (Beyer) 9:54.27
5. Yuushi Kennedy (Beyer) 9:56.58

Hayes and Haven could/should get through but the top couple of runners in D5 are tough and will likely leave D4 fighting for the remaining spots

VG 3200
The competing StanCo runner is Tyleah Badea
The at large qualifying mark is 11:14.78.

1. Brooklyn Ruzumovicz (Casa Robles) 11:17.53
6. Tyleah Badea (Beyer) 12:40.85

It will take sub 11:30 to qualify

DIVISION 5
The competing StanCo leagues are TVL, MLL, SAL, CCAA/MVL. This meet is Wednesday and Friday at Riverbank HS. The winner of D4 and the winner of D5 will qualify along with the next 4 fastest marks.

VB 800
The competing StanCo runners are  Armando Garcia, Alejandro Ochoa, Emilio Castillo, Chance Butler, Bryan Alvarez, Bobby Nieto, and Carlos Nava.
The at large qualifying mark is 1:57.62

1. Broen Holman (Sonora) 1:57.72
5. Bobby Nieto (Hughson) 2:00.85
6. Armando Garcia (Riverbank) 2:01.08
13. Carlos Nava (Hughson) 2:05.50
19. Alejandro Ochoa (Riverbank) 2:06.87

It is unlikely that Holman is even running this race. Nieto could sneak in with a sub 2 PR.

VG 800
The competing StanCo runners are  Claire Medhurst, Samantha DeLaCruz, Noeli Gomez Orozco, and Allison Landeverde.
The at large qualifying mark 2:20.95.

1. Micah Redding (Colfax) 2:19.21
2. Samantha DeLaCruz (Orestimba) 2:20.87
9. Noeli Gomez Orozco (Hughson) 2:29.72
18. Allison Landeverde (Hughson) 2:36.29

DeLaCruz easily qualifies.

VB 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Matt Santana, Armando Garcia, Malachi Arnold, Sal Virgen, Emilio Castillo, Jose Ponce, and Pat Kearney
The at large qualifying mark is 4:24.75.

1. Broen Holman (Sonora) 4:19.55
2. Pat Kearney (Orestimba) 4:26.15
10. Matt Santana (Riverbank) 4:35.40
11. Armando Garcia (Riverbank) 4:37.39

It will likely be a mad scramble to qualify with that at large mark being that magic number for everyone except Holman

VG 1600
The competing StanCo runners are Giselle Fernandez, Jessica Vigil, Samantha DeLaCruz, and Noeli Gomez, Orozco
The at large qualifying mark is 5:15.76.

1. Giselle Fernandez (Riverbank) 4:50.97
3. Samantha DeLaCruz (Orestimba) 5:18.11
7. Noeli Gomez Orozco (Hughson) 5:26.59
9. Jessica Vigil (Riverbank) 5:27.59

I believe that only the winner from D4 advances with D5 taking all of the remaining spots thus Fernandez and DeLaCruz are in for sure

VB 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Matt Santana, Malachi Arnold, Emilio Castillo, Sal Virgen, Abraham Felix, Jose Ponce, and Pat Kearney.
The at large qualifying mark is 9:26.36.

2. Pat Kearney (Orestimba) 9:21.93
8. Alessandro Pimentel (Hughson) 10:01.26
12. Matt Santana (Riverbank) 10:13.21

Holman and Kearney are tough and will likely qualify and leave D4 fighting for the remaining spots

VG 3200
The competing StanCo runners are Giselle Fernandez, Jessica Vigil, Susannah Hall, Julee Arreguin, Addyson Ramos, Sophie Benham, and Ale Gonzalez
The at large qualifying mark is 11:14.78.

It will take sub 11:30 to qualify. Fernandez qualifies and Benham and Vigil are battling for the final spot
