2024 XC All StanCo PreSeason GIRLS

I am going to assume that anyone reading this post already read the post regarding the boys' preseason team. And by the number of readers and the comments I think that many people are getting antsy for the season to get started. Once again though, this is a blog. What you are reading here is my OPINION based on many factors. If you don't agree with what I have written, please use it to set goals and fuel your performance. In short, go out and prove me wrong.

THE TOP TWELVE

NATALIE ARRIAZA (PATTERSON) 11TH--ran 2:20, 5:07, and 10:46 and as such is one of the top runners in the State and the top returning junior in NorCal. Barring injury she will challenge for the section title and a top 5 finish at State

ZOE LEACH (DOWNEY) 12TH--with track times of 5:17 and 11:06 Zoe made a huge jump in performance last season. She dominated CCAL in XC; and that will likely be that same this season, BUT the chase group has matured too. Zoe will need to improve further to sweep league again and return to State.

AVERY CARLSON (PITMAN) 11TH--health has been the biggest issue with Avery. When she is healthy she is great. Last year she made it through the entire track season and that produced times of 2:25, 5:15, and 11:23. She and Maya Day will likely push Zoe through the CCAL races. Together the three may produce some startling times.

MAYA DAY (TURLOCK) 10TH--if the Turlock girls are going to qualify for State...this is the year. Maya produced track times of 2:36, 5:19, and  11:33 as a frosh. Those are good times, but it will take more from her and all of the other Lady Bulldogs in order to reach the next level (STATE).

JYMENA NGUYEN MARQUEZ (GRACE DAVIS) 11TH--she ran 2:27, 5:24, and 12:05 last year but was injured at the end of the season. She should dominate the WAC. Unfortunately that lack of competition may leave her unprepared for the tougher races at the end of the season.

BRADIE EVANS (OAKDALE) 11TH--coming out of D3 Oakdale may have an easier path to State than some of the other teams. If that is to be the case they will need a lot from Bradie (and the others). In track she produced quality times of 2:28, 5:26, and 11:38.

GISELLE FERNANDEZ (RIVERBANK) 11TH--there is no doubt with her time of 4:59 from track that Giselle is the top miler in this group. But XC is three miles not one. RBK moves to the MML this season. That may give Giselle a bit more competition in her league races, which could help prepare her for the big meets at the end of the season.

AUBREY WEBB (TURLOCK) 12TH--she emerged as a big surprise this past track season by producing marks of 5:36 and 11:44. Turlock will need her to be more consistent with high quality efforts for them to win CCAL and challenge for STATE.

MYLIE OLSON (TURLOCK) 10TH--Maybe the biggest surprise for me last track season was the huge leap forward Mylie made. Her times of 2:22, 5:29, and 12:07 where very impressive for a Frosh. She could have gone sub-12 but just never ran the race under descent conditions. She will likely be top 5 in CCAL competition.

MAYA WOLFE (MODESTO) 12TH--Maya ran 2:31, 5:41, and 11:56. Those would be solid marks for most runners but not Maya. She struggled her junior year with her physical and emotional fitness. I am hopeful that with a solid summer of training she will be closer to the level she was previously when she contested in the CCAL and qualified for State.

MAGUIRE LIMA (TURLOCK) 12TH--Maguire ran 2:31, 5:41, and amazingly 11:56 last track season. She rode the wave of improved/tougher workouts to greatly improve. But her performances still lack consistency. Physically she is talented. In her senior season the growth will need to be in the area of mental toughness and race consistency.

JESSICA VIGIL (RIVERBANK) 12TH--Jessica ran 2:35, 5:36, and 11:54 in track. She and Giselle will be looking to make a name for themselves in their inaugural season in the MML.

THE NEXT TWELVE
TAYLOR REAMS (OAKDALE) 10TH--she ran 12:16 in track. The Mustang ladies will need her efforts to win the VOL

SOPHIE BENHAM (HUGHSON) 11TH--Health and fitness were the issues last season. With very limited practice she ran 2:28 and 5:53. The Lady Huskies will need her to be able to compete in order to hold off Hilmar in the TVL.

DAIZY GONZALEZ (TURLOCK) 12TH--Daizy plays softball so there are no track times to compare. It is easy to over look her BUT she was the 9th fastest StanCo runner at Subs last XC season. She is the 5th Turlock girl listed here, that is one reason that I think the Lady Bulldogs can compete for a State berth.

LILLY EDGERTON (TURLOCK) 12TH--Bulldog runner #6 on this list...12:17 last track season.

AVA CALANDRO (OAKDALE) 12TH--Ava has had some injury/health issues in the past. In her senior season she has all that experience that the younger Oakdale runners could benefit from.

SAMANTHA DELACRUZ (ORESTIMBA) 10TH--In her Frosh season she ran 12:29. Hopefully the move to the TVL and the much tougher league competition will promote further growth.

EMERSON NEWTON (PITMAN) 11TH--Emerson ran 2:31, 5:33, and 12:30 to really improve over the course of her Soph year. If Pitman is going to stay close to Turlock in the CCAL, they will need Emerson to be in the top ten at CCAL.

ELIANA GLORIA (MODESTO) 11TH--She ran 2:35, 5:32, and 12:48 mostly running F/S races against Mylie. Now as a junior it will be only Varsity races. Eliana is more than capable of being top 7ish in CCAL and to push Maya for the top spot at MoHi.

ADELYN PERSONS (PITMAN) 12TH--2:26 and 5:40 get her on here...she is on here every year. I see such promise in her, but I am still waiting for the performance that matches her talent. As I said with Emerson, The Pride will need more from her. She can't settle in a race this season and be content to float in the second group.

SUSANNAH HALL (WATERFORD) 11TH--Susannah ran 2:33 and 5:40 in track but with the exit of Orestimba and Ripon Christian from the SAL Susannah will probably have no one to race against and that may leave her at a big disadvantage in the big meets at the end of the season.

SHELBY MITCHELL (OAKDALE) 10TH--2:26 as a Frosh was impressive. Oakdale will need her to mature quickly at the longer distance for them to battle for that State spot.

NAYELI MATTISON (PITMAN) 11TH--she ran 2:36 in track pulling mostly relay and hurdle duty. She was the 10th StanCo finisher at Subs last season. She is a fierce competitor and could end up as The Pride's #2 girl...which may be what they need in order to compete with Turlock

Wow, you read this far? My comments were the truth as I know it, see it,  and feel it in my gut. In no way was I trying to "diss" anyone. There are 24 quality runners on this list that all have room to improve and goals to set. I love to see that growth. I love to be surprised.

Let me know in the comments where I erred.  Better yet go out on the course and prove me wrong.
