WEEK 3 2018 XC (CCAL 1; VOL 1; CCC 1; WAC Duals; Frogtown; Woodbridge; Josh Ruff

A big big week with WAC, VOL, CCC, and CCAL teams in action. Additionally Frogtown is always a big event.

WED 9/12  CCAL 1, Legion Park, Modesto
Competing StanCo schools were Gregori, Enochs, Modesto, Downey, Pitman, and Turlock. This is the first ever CCAL cluster meet

VB

In this race it was all Duchala and Guerrero from the 800m mark. They dueled until the final 800m when Guerrero opened up a small gap and held it to the finish. The standard for top times on this course is 16:30. Last year 10 runners broke 17:00 at this meet. Comparing  this year and last tells me that the "pack" wasn't moving nearly as fast as some past years. However notice that former MMC schools swept the top-10 places.

SAT 9/15 FROGTOWN, Calaveras County Fairgrounds, Angels Camp
Competing StanCo schools Patterson, Central Catholic, Central Valley, Pitman, Ceres, Denair, Waterford, Orestimba, Oakdale, Johansen, Enochs.

As a spectator I am noticing that this meet has gotten smaller over the years. Competition-wise is also has gotten weaker. Some of the better StanCo schools that attended didn't run their whole teams. Others ran their B-teams. Others ran their younger runners in the frosh or soph races. The net result was that the competition was weaker than the CCAL meet, as is evident in Enochs' 5th place finish in the Lg Sch VG race.
