Last week was so light that I pushed off the ROW selection until this week. This was the league championship week. There were several good performances (but many were by runners who had already been named as ROW)...but few performances were really surprising or eye-catching for me. After reviewing the results at length I selected eight to highlight (but only 4 to receive shirts).
GABE AVALOS (Turlock)--placed 3rrd at the CCAL Championship meet in a 5K time of 16:30.44. His time a place helped the Bulldogs to the league title.
NAYELI MATTISON (Pitman)--ran 19:43.29 on the TRRP three loop 5K course to place 4th. Her time was a 50 sec improvement over the same race last year.
YAHIR CONTRERAS (Johansen)--placed 8th at the WAC Championship meet in 16:47.61. This was the fastest time ever by a Johansen runner on this course and the #20 all time effort--a 50 sec improvement from his time of the same course earlier in the season.
TENLEY WYLIE (Oakdale)--placed 5th in the VOL Championship meet in 19:15.3. As the Mustangs #2 girl she was a big factor in their conference title
OTHERS I CONSIDERED
GISELA HERNANDEZ (Turlock)--placed 5th in the CCAL Championship meet in 19:43.29. It was an improvement of about 55 secs from her openning season effort on the same course.
ANAHI RUIZ VELASCO (Beyer)--placed 2nd at the WAC Championship helping the Patriots to the title (as their #1 girl was ailing). Her time of 19:52.95 for 5K was #11 all time on the course.
GIANNA CRUZ (Riverbank)--ran 20:11 for 5K in the MLL Championship meet which is #3 on the Jacob Myers course. Her effort was key in the Bruins' league championship run.
ARMANDO GARCIA (Riverbank)--placed 3rd at the MLL Championship meet in a 5K time of 16:57.72 (which was #6 all time for the course) helping the Bruins win the league title.
