Last weekend for two very warm days on Friday 5/29 and Saturday 5/30 a handful of StanCo athletes competed at the California State Track and Field Championship at Buchanan HS in Clovis. Although the results are well know at this point, I am posting this as the historical record of the event.
Friday 1600m Prelims
7. Giselle Fernandez (Riverbank) 4:49.83
This race not only qualified her for the finals, but it was a PR and lowered her StanCo record in the 1600.
Friday 800m Prelims
24. Tyleah Badea (Beyer) 2:14.56 #7 all time
Although Tyleah didn't qualify for the finals, she did improve by about 6 seconds in a week. The result of this race ranks her as the 7th fastest ever in the County.
Saturday 1600m Finals
6. Giselle Fernandez (Riverbank) 4:43.80 #1 all time
With 150m left in the race it looked like she had a chance to place 3rd, but she was out kicked to the line by a handful of runners. Still it was a 6 sec PR and ten seconds faster than any other StanCo girl ever.
Saturday 3200m Finals
14. Natalie Arriaza (Patterson) 10:35.24 #2 all time
21. Avery Carlson (Pitman) 10:54.65
Natalie wanted to medal and went for it, but the race pace was very fast and she ended up running much of the race alone. Her time was still a small PR and further solidifies her position in the second spot on the all time list. Avery seemed content to linger at the back. When in came time to really move it appeared that she just wasn't feeling it. This race should take nothing away from the spectacular season that she had.
