2024 Track State Meet

The California State Championship meet is the ultimate culmination for a high school track athlete's season. For the past 20ish years the meet has been held at Buchanan HS in Clovis. If you have ever been to this facility, you will quickly understand that it was built with hosting this meet in mind. This year there were only three StanCo distance runners competing, so I will only be reporting those results

VG 1600m
Fernandez
There were prelims in the 1600m of Friday and finals on Saturday. I have combined the times. Giselle didn't reach the finals but her time in the Prelims was a PR and noteworthy in that she broke 5:00 for the first time. Her time ranks her as the #7 StanCo performer of all time in the 1600m.

1. Sadie Engelhardt (Ventura) 4:32.06
19. Giselle Fernandez (Riverbank) 4:59.52

VG 3200m
Arriaza
This race started off at an incredible pace. Natalie tried to stay with the lead pack for the first couple of laps. She came through the 1600m in about 5:10 (her PR is 5:07). Her paced slowed from there as her legs felt that early torrid pace. She rallied over the final lap and earned a new PR that ranks her at #3 all time StanCo for the 3200m. She competes her Soph season as the #3 StanCo performer of all time in the 3200 and #18 in the 1600m (at 5:07).

1. Jaelyn Williams (East Lake) 9:57.11
17. Natalie Arriaza (Patterson) 10:46.42

VB 3200m

Alsaidi
The only competing StanCo runner was Oakdale's Omar Alsaidi. Omar holds the 4th fastest time ever for a StanCo boy at 8:57. I know he enetered this meet with goals of medaling and running a big PR...The pace of this race was incredible. 17 runners went under nine minutes. Omar fell back from the chase pack early on. When he began to move so did everyone else and it was difficult to make headway. He still ran essentially equal to his PR time. His same time would have place him 7th in last year's race. He was disappointed but as I said he finishes HS as the #4 StanCo performer in the 3200 and #3 in the 1600 at (4:10). Simply put he will be the legendary performer that future local athletes will aspire to be.

1. Evan Noonan (Dana Hills) 8:43.12
16. Omar Alsaidi (Oakdale) 8:58.83
