I haven't done a PreSeason All StanCo post in past years; but hey, why not? Making the All StanCo Track team is solely based on your times and not on any set number of athletes or on receiving more votes than someone else. For the boys you must achieve one of the following times to garner the recognition sub 2:00 (800); sub 4:30 (1600); sub 10:00 (3200). For the ladies it is sub 2:20 (800); sub 5:25 (1600); sub 12:00 (3200). Last year there were 2 boys who met all three distance marks.
BOYS 800 (sub 2:00 to qualify)
Last year there were four who met this standard.
JOE LIGHTHALL 12th (Hughson)--ran 1:52.47 last season which ranks as # 3 all time for StanCo behind the 1960 (yep the record is 62 years old) 1:52.0 by Downey's Ron Whitney. The stars will need to align for Joe to beat the County record but hitting the sub 2:00 standard he could do in a workout.CALEB CAVANAUGH 12th (Oakdale)--went sub 2:00 in 2021 (1:58.2 (h)). Last year he focused more on the 3200m
TOP RETURNER
NATHAN HORTON 12th (Hughson) ran 2:03.07 last season but had a huge improvement during XC.
GIRLS 800 (sub 2:20 to qualify)
Last year only one met this time.
TOP RETURNERS
LEXIE GOMEZ 12th (Gregori) ran 2:26.06 last season
AVA TORRES 11th (Turlock) ran 2:26.66 last season.
BOYS 1600 (sub 4:30 to qualify)
Last year 5 qualified.
NATE OLSEN 12th (Beyer) ran 4:27.84 is the only returning qualifier. He really focuses more on the 3200m but I suspect that he will go sub 4:30 easily during the course of the season.
TOP RETURNERS
JOE LIGHTHALL 12th (Hughson) ran 4:30.33 last year in his only race at this distance
CALEB CAVANAUGH 12th (Oakdale) ran 4:31.15 last year and 4:24.37 in 2021
DAX DALEY 12th (Oakdale) ran 4:32.07 last year and 4:30.46 in 2021 while focusing more on the 3200
OMAR ALSAIDI 11th (Oakdale) ran 4:29.58 which would have qualified him for All StanCo status but he was running for Ripon. This year he is running for Oakdale and should easily qualify, maybe in all 3 events.
GIRLS 1600 (sub 5:25 to qualify)
Last year 5 runners qualified.
MACI DAY 12th (Pitman) ran 5:22.70
In XC health was the issue for both of these young ladies. If they can remain healthy they should easily qualify
No other returners have broken 5:30
BOYS 3200 (sub 10:00)
Nine young men qualified last year
DAX DALEY 12th (Oakdale) produced a 9:21.21 last season which ranks as #12 all time for the County. I know that me has his sights set on breaking 9:00 this season.
NATE OLSEN 12th (Beyer) ran 9:28.47 which is #18 all time StanCo.
CALEB CAVANAUGH 12th (Oakdale) ran 9:30.11 last season his first year focusing most on the 3200.
MASON OLIVEIRA 11th (Oakdale) ran 9:50.58 last year. Will have some work still to do recovering from a severe injury to return to this form or faster.
ISMAEL DOMINGUEZ 10th (Oakdale) ran 9:54.81 last season for Gregori.
JACKSON OLIVEIRA 11th (Oakdale) ran 9:55.19 last season.
OMAR ALSAIDI 11th (Oakdale) ran 9:29.58 last season for Ripon.
TOP RETURNERS
DIEGO CISNEROS 12th (Pitman) ran 10:05.28 but has some work to do after a disappointing XC season.
MEHTAAB DHILLON 11th (Modesto) ran 10:07.52 last season
RYAN ELIAS 12th (Beyer) ran 10:14.88 last season.
On a side note of some basic math, that is 6 runners at Oakdale who have gone sub 10 in the 3200. Certain no other StanCo team in history could make that statement.
GIRLS 3200 (sub 12:00)
Four qualified last year
KASSIDY FMURA 12th (Oakdale) ran 11:51.06 last season while missing the end of the season due to illness
LEXIE GOMEZ 12th (Gregori) ran 11:55.50 last year
ZOE LEACH 10th (Downey) ran 11:55.83 last season
OTHERS WHO MIGHT MAKE THE CUT
SOPHIE BENHAM 9th (Hughson) came on really strong at the end of XC. I think with the right training she could go sub 12 in the 3200
JACOB CAVANAUGH 10th (Oakdale) last season he ran a lot of shorter races but I think based on his XC season time he could go sub 10 in the 3200.
NATHAN HORTON 12th (Hughson) based on his XC season I think Nathan potentially could meet the required time in any of these three events. However given that he is likely to run mostly 400/800 races he will have the best shot at the 800m
NATALIE ARRIAZA 9th (Patterson) was rocking at the end of XC and could likely meet these standard times
GISELLE FERNANDEZ 9th (Riverbank) ran F/S in XC but regardless in track it is all the same distance
