This is the second installment of the PreSeason All-StanCo write up. As I stated on the girls' post, this is not an exact science. There are some individuals who have earned their spot on this list by virtue of their XC and track seasons last year. For some others it is based more on my gut instincts. Do you disagree? Have info that I don't? Awesome, please comment below or directly message me, I would be happy to listen to what you think you know.
BOYS PRESEASON ALL STANCO TEAM:
CALEB CAVANAUGH (Oakdale) 12th--was All StanCo (ASC) in XC in 19, 20, and 21. In track he was ASC in 21 and 22. His top track times last season were 2:02, 4:31, and 9:30. Very rarely do boys make the ASC team in XC all 4 years, Caleb has an opportunity to accomplish that fete.
JOE LIGHTHALL (Hughson) 12th--was ASC XC in 20 and 21 and in track for 2022. His top track times were 1:52 and 4:30. With the graduation of Daniel Lucatero from Livingston and the departure of Omar Alsaidi from Ripon, the TVL should be a cake-walk for Joe. However I would rate the success of this season solely on whether he qualifies for State or not.
DAX DALEY (Oakdale) 12th--was ASC in XC in 21 and 22, and 2022 in track. His track times were 4:32 and 9:21. As seniors it is now time for Dax and Caleb to be strong leaders and grab another SJS D3 title and a top 5 finish at State.
NATE OLSEN (Beyer) 12th--was ASC in XC in 20 and 21 and in track for 22. His top track times were 2:02, 4:27, and 9:28. Nate should breeze through the WAC. But it should be noted that he lost his main running mate through graduation.
ISMAEL DOMINGUEZ (Gregori) 10th--was ASC in XC for 21 and 22 for track. Making the ASC XC team as a Frosh boy is a rare event and breaking 10 in the 3200 as a Frosh is even rarer BUT Ismael accomplished both last year. The real question is he mature enough to be the dominate runner in the CCAL (with the graduation of Damian Garcia and Efren Sanchez). Top track times were 4:35 and 9:54.
OMAR ALSAIDI (Oakdale) 11th--The transfer of Omar from Ripon to Oakdale may be the biggest event of the season. He will be required to sit out the first third of the season but the important meets are at the end of the season. He has run 4:28 and 9:29. That gives Oakdale three boys that have run 9:30 or faster...and 5 that have gone sub 10. Has any StanCo school ever been able to say that before?
JACKSON OLIVEIRA (Oakdale) 11th--made ASC in track for 22. His best track times were 4:43 and 9:55. He will be Oakdale's #4 and would easily be the #1 on most StanCo teams. With the dramatic injury to his brother, Oakdale will be searching for a #5 runner to solidify that team searching for a high placing at State.
DIEGO CISNEROS (Pitman) 12th--His track times of 2:05, 4:41, and 10:05 were huge improvements from XC and the previous year in track. Now that Pitman lost their top 3 runners to graduation, Diego should be "the man." Hopefully he is ready for that responsibility.
MEHTAAB DHILLON (Modesto) 11th--at 2:07, 4:46, and 10:07 his marks are very respectable. I was so rooting for him to go sub 10 during track, but that didn't happen. Behind Ismael the CCAL is wide open for Mehtaab, Diego, and anyone else who is ready to step up.
JACKSON OLSEN (Beyer) 11th--best track times are 2:08 and 4:39. I expect that an additional year of growth will improve his performances as he attempts to keep up with his cousin Nate.
