WEEK 13 (SJS Masters)

Section Masters is the stepping-stone to the State meet. The top three in each event qualify for the "big dance." However for some athletes making it to this meet is the main goal of the season. For the 2018 track season only 6 StanCo distance runners would toe the line at Masters. Although that number seems low, the actual runners are some of the best the County has ever produced.

This was a crazy fast race with the winner breaking the meet record by 7 seconds. With 100m left I thought that both Mavleen and Madison had a chance of finishing under the magical 5 min barrier. They both came up teasingly short, but they finished with amazingly fast times none-the-less. Fife runs 5:11 for the second time this year and remains just over one second off from making the all-time StanCo list.

This would be the final races for Gregori's dynamic duo of Santiago Ruiz and Mason Reeves. They came up short of qualifying for State on this day but will be memorialized with the #8 and #9  3200m times in StanCo history.

So only 3 StanCo ladies have ever broken the 11 min barrier--in over 40 years. On this night Mavleen Mann would add to that total with an incredible 10:55. All the more amazing is just how fast and deep this field of runners was. Three years ago a time of 10:54 placed 3rd at this meet and qualified for State. On this night 10:55 would only get Mavleen 9th place.
