WEEK 3 (CCC 1, MMC 1, VOL 1, CCAA 1, Woodbridge, EarlyBird, Frogtown, Mt Carmel...)

An extremely crazy busy week for HS XC. Some teams ran their 4th race, while others finally hit the course.

WED 9/13 CCC 1, Applegate Park, Merced
Participating StanCo teams are Pitman and Turlock.

VARSITY GIRLS
The Bulldog Ladies had high hopes coming into the season of taking the CCC title. This would be their first real test. However once the dust settled it would be Atwater taking the close team battle and the Turlock girls hovering in a distant and disappointing third place position. Obviously both Atwater and Merced mean business and the Turlock Ladies will have to work even harder if they want to reach their goal of a CCC title.

WED 9/13 MMC 1, Legion Park, Modesto
Participating StanCo teams were Beyer, Enochs, Grace Davis, Downey, Johansen, Modesto, and Gregori. I have always said that this course was just slightly over 3 miles, however it was "wheeled" just before the meet and measured almost 5K.

VARSITY GIRLS
For the girls the questions revolved around just how good could Gregori be, and would that be good enough to overcome the depth of Downey. The answers turned out to be...1. Gregori is very good, and 2. not quite.
Downey would take the dual scoring 23 to 35 (placing 7 in the top 13), but that was with Briseida Garcia getting injured at the 2mi mark and limping to the finish. If she had been able to run to her ability Downey would have beaten Gregori by only 2 points. Stay tuned as I am sure that future MMC meets will be very interesting.

VARSITY BOYS
Just after the 1/2 mile mark, with a pack of about 12
Well for the boys I knew it would be all Gregori (and they put 7 in the top 12). The question was who would step up and take the second spot. It would be Downey looking solid in 2nd, and Modesto and Enochs tying each other. Enochs' 6th runner would break the tie, giving the Eagles the 3rd spot. MoHi falling to 4th is new to me. Since I have been doing this StanCo thing, I can't remember the Panthers finishing worse than 2nd at an MMC race.

This is a huge meet. Most teams in the Central Coast Section compete here as this is one of the courses that their championship meets are held on. Additionally since the race is near the ocean, other teams from around the state flock here for the high level of competition and the alluring location.
