10/4/14 The Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay is an opportunity for some valley schools to run in some hills, in a cooler climate (usually), and enjoy an afternoon at the beach following the race. By all accounts (other than the traffic) those that make the trip have an enjoyable day away from the valley.
Rarely do TVL, MMC, and CCC schools ever compete on the same day over the same course (except sections and sub-sections of course). For Artichoke, Riverbank, Downey, and Turlock would compete at full strength, allowing for a direct comparison of some of the stronger StanCo teams. Pitman, Modesto, and Enochs also had competitors; but in the cases of Modesto and Enochs, were not at full strength as I believe the ACT (or maybe SATs) were being given.
COMBINED BOYS RESULTS
Since all levels compete over the same rugged course for the same 2.33 mi distance it is possible to combine all of the divisions to directly compare complete teams. By analyzing the combined results there are some interesting facts that emerge...Riverbank still comes out as the top dog err, BRUIN. The Downey team which is about 3rd or 4th in the MMC easy beat a Turlock team at full strength (not to mention the Modesto High team with only one runner from their varsity also beat the Bulldogs). Individually, Adan and Emmanuel Chavez (Riverbank) continue to roll as probably the top 2 males in the county.
The places you see beside the names are not their individual race places but their overall combined results places. I've listed everyone who finished under 14:30.

There were 945 male runners and 62 teams. Riverbank placed a combined 6th overall. Downey was 21st, Modesto 23rd, and Turlock 27th.
COMBINED GIRLS RESULTS
The girls' results were even more telling than the boys' as the top StanCo TVL team (Riverbank), the top StanCo CCC team (Turlock) and the top MMC team (Downey) would all be at full strength. Some individual comparisons would also be helpful for the upcoming mid-season rankings.
For the teams it was the incredible depth of Downey beating the strong up-front running of Riverbank. Individually it was the TVL champion (Ruvalcaba) easily out distancing the MMC champion (Names) and the CCC champion (Lara).
