By the title you might not be able to tell but this was a much lighter week that the past several. The reason for this is that many schools were on Easter/Spring Break and the weather cancelled the only major local invitational.
The weeks highlights for me:
1. Golden Valley's Fernanda Cortes ran 5:01 at the Tiger Invite.
2. Christian Gonzalez (Sierra) has a huge PR in the 1600 at WCR.

The competing South SJS Distance teams were Sierra and East Union. This meet was paused for 30 min during the 400m races. Then it was resumed. After the 800m races the meet was stopped and canceled.

FRI 4/10 SAT 4/11 ARCADIA INV @ Arcadia HS
The competing South SJS teams were Beyer, Atwater, Buhach Colony, East Union, El Capitan, Golden Valley, Livingston, Manteca, Merced, Orestimba, Patterson, Pitman, Ripon, Riverbank, and Turlock. This is THE MEET in California and maybe the nation. Getting into the meet is a honor and an opportunity. The hope is by competing against such a high level of competition all of the athletes will benefit. However the fields are crowded in the distance races, and if you aren't used to running in a crowd, finding room to maneuver can be elusive. Also if you have an "off day" while at Arcadia it can be humbling and disappointing. I would say that most of the local distance runners did not have their best races on this day. Hopefully they can learn from the experience and move forward to better races as we move into the final third of the season.
