WEEK 4 2018 TRACK (TVL Relays, County Clash, Bronco Dist Carnival)

During what was a very wet week, most of the MMC dual meets were canceled for the 2nd week in a row. On the all-weather oval at Riverbank the TVL schools managed to compete in the light rain on Tuesday. Most of the schools from Stanislaus, Merced, and San Joaquin Counties met to compete at the County Clash meet.

This coming week the weather is supposed to warm up and dry out a bit. The MMC schools are off this week (so no dual meets). Hughson and Riverbank will meet on Wednesday. Also the first CCC cluster will be on Wednesday. Next Friday is the MJC Invite. The high-powered elite Stanford Invite is also next Friday.

FRI 3/23/18 COUNTY CLASH, Oakdale HS, Oakdale
This meet is intended to match the best track athletes of Stanislaus County against their counter-parts in both Merced and San Joaquin Counties, however some schools pass on the county championship meets, and others pass on the combined meet. A few distance crews run at county and them swap runners at Clash or go to Bronco instead of County Clash. It is all a mix of politics, preference, and providing rest for top distance runners. Never-the-less there were some very impressive performances at this meet under some decent conditions.

VB 800m
Anthony Vazquez led from the start and never looked back. Although he took the easy win he had to be disappointed in the time.

As with the StanCo meet the top/fastest boys bypassed this one making it anyone's race. Forkner ran a break-neck pace for the first three laps or so until Maldonado took the lead for good. Cronkite was repeatedly bounced around by two Tokay runners, but he fought down the stretch for a big PR and a second place finish.

A few years ago this was the premier distance-only meet in Northern California. More recently the Dublin Distance Fiesta (see last week's post) has bumped it. Don't get me wrong it is still a major meet with some strong competition. The only competing StanCo teams were Riverbank and Downey.
