MASTERS PREVIEW (So you want to qualify for State?)

This is my preview of the StanCo DISTANCE runners who qualified for SJS Masters and perhaps what their chances are for making it to State.

VG 800m
The Prelims will be on Thursday. The top 3 in each heat (and the next three fastest) will qualify for the finals on Friday.

SARA STEVENS (Oakdale) is in Heat 2. She comes in with the 4th fastest time in the heat (2:18.41)
BRISEIDA GARCIA (Gregori) in in Heat 3. She comes in with the 4th fastest time in the heat (2:18.55).
I belive it will take about 2:17ish to get into the finals and about 2:15 or less to qualify for State.

VB 800m
The Prelims will be on Thursday. The top 3 in each heat (and the next three fastest) will qualify for the finals on Friday.

ANTHONY VAZQUEZ (Central Catholic) comes in with a time of 1:58.02. He has the 5th fastest time in his heat. I think sub 1:57 will get you into the finals. To make it to State it could take 1:54 or lower.

For both the 1600m and 3200m races, there are no Wednesday Prelims. Everyone goes straight to the finals. This creates a very crowded and talented field.

VG 1600m
EMILY FIFE (Hughson) has the 13th fastest qualifying time (5:14.62)
MAVLEEN MANN (Pitman) comes in with the 23rd fastest time (5:33)
To get to State it will likely take a sub 5:02 effort. Four runners come in with times faster than that already (So it may take a sub 5:00)

VG 3200m
ESMERALDA CAMPOS (Hughson) comes in at 12:10.77, the 22nd fastest qualifying time.
ELIZETTE YSIAS (Hughson) has the 23rd fastest qualifying time with 12:16.47.

Usually it takes a sub 11:00 mark to get to State. Last year nine ladies broke 11 and it took 10:43 to qualify.

VB 3200m
The only three StanCo men to break 10 min this season are appropriately the last three standing in the 3200m.
SANTIAGO RUIZ (Gregori) comes in with the 10th fastest time of 9:34.71.
MASON REEVES (Gregori)is the 13th fastest qualifier at 9:37.80.
TOMAS VIRGEN (Patterson) comes in with the 22nd fastest time at 9:57.94.

The last couple of years it has take a sub 9:20 effort to grab the final State spot. It may take 9:10 or better as 4 qualified under 9:30.
