This write up is a little late but 2800 photos take some time to go through. Now that the photos are finally done I can get the results typed up. I would make one comment on the results: many StanCo athletes really went for it out there on the course. They were gunning hard for that State meet berth or a Section Meet medal. Often this extreme early effort led to a very difficult (and painful) second half of the race. The Willow Hills course is unforgiving. The runners who scored spots to State no doubt earned them. And those who were not mentally or physically tough enough (on that day) paid the price.

VARSITY GIRLS (all division combined)

Karina Prado

As with the SubSection Meet it was the D1 and D2 races that by far had the faster fields. Briseida Garcia (Gregori) was the fastest StanCo lady by over 20 seconds. She finally put out a full and complete race effort. And she needed it too in order to qualify for State. Additional State qualifiers were Karina Prado (Oakdale) in D3; Jaecelyn Romero (Waterford) in D5; and the entire Hughson Husky team.

Anthony Vazquez qualified for State

 For the boys both Modesto and Gregori had their sights seriously set on a berth to State. With only two teams qualifying in D1, and Jesuit having one of those spots seriously sewn up, that chances of qualifying would be slim. Add to the equation that both teams had to get past the other to reach their goal. Going in to the race MoHi would be missing their #2-3 runner to a stress fracture. Gregori's #4 runner competed but was seriously injured and was no help to them. This would stack the deck against both teams. For each team the top two runners would also furiously be striving for an individual State berth...and again they would be vying against each other. In the end it would be Gregori's Santiago Ruiz scoring the individual spot in the D1 race. The only other StanCo State qualifier was Anthony Vazquez of Central Catholic.
