WEEK 6 (MMC 2, TVL 2, SL 2, Patterson @ Ceres, Artichoke, Stanford)

After last week's lull we had another busy week of XC meets. I attended meets on Wed, Thur, and Sat taking a pile of photos and spending hours upon hours processing those photos. I wouldn't have it any other way.

MMC 2 at EAST LA LOMA PARK, MODESTO  3MI  WED 9/28
Competing StanCo teams are Modesto, Gregori, Downey, Enochs, Beyer, Grace Davis, and Johansen

VARSITY GIRLS
To me the big surprise here was the win by Perillo.  Last year in track (800m) Garcia was 10 secs faster than Perillo...nice job Aryana! Downey moved one girl down to F/S and still rolled over the rest of the teams (6 in the top 10; 7 out of 12; 8 out of 14). They are deep compared to the rest of the league.

VARSITY BOYS
I could tell that Modesto came out with a sense of urgency.  The up front pace was very fast AND there was a large pack (usually it is one or the other). It was a tight battle with the top three being decided in the final strides. After the top 12 spots Modesto, Gregori and Downey all had three across the line. But it would Gregori taking the title 23 to 32 over MoHi. Modesto isn't out of the MMC title hunt just yet, but they would have to beat Gregori in the next two MMC meets--a tough task to be sure.

VARSITY BOYS
Tomas Virgen contines his unbeaten streak in the WAC. I don't think he has lost to a WAC opponent in XC in 2.5 years. Patterson edges out Ceres in a tight team race 27 to 29

SL 2 at LEGION PARK, MODESTO  5K   THUR 9/29
Competing StanCo schools were Waterford, Orestimba, and Denair.  Jaecelyn Romero and the Delhi boys are the ones who suffer here by the splitting up of the SL and TVL meets. With so few runners in the SL there are huge gaps and little competition for the better runners. never-the-less the SL did manage to pull off their first ever cluster meet with no major issues. Hopefully these small schools can all built up their programs in the future.

ARTICHOKE INV at HALF MOON BAY HS       SAT 10/1
Competing StanCo schools were Modesto, Gregori, Enochs, Grace Davis, Pitman, Turlock, and Riverbank. The course is legendary and spans the odd distance of 2.33 mi. Since everyone run the same distance it is possible to combine all the finishers. Below I have noted the combined place of all the finishers.

GIRLS
For the girls there were 694 finishers and 57 complete teams. Turlock had the best StanCo finish in 13th. Other StanCo teams were: 20-Gregori; 24-Pitman; 33-Enochs; 36-Riverbank; 44-Grace Davis; 48-Modesto
