Week's Action (4/14-4/20)

I'll start with this meet because it produced the most impressive of the results.

VG 800m
In the ultra competitive Invitational Division, Mikayla Florez (Riverbank) placed 4th with a time of 2:19.71. This impressive time places her at #15 on the all-time StanCo 800m list.

In the Open Division there were also some fine marks.
10. Torrey Maravilla (Gregori) 2:28.05--a PR I believe
16. Cassie Derdivanis (Turlock) 2:35.31
17. Raveena Samra (Turlock) 2:35.47

That wasn't the end of the high-level performances.
VB 1600m
15. Alec Villagomez (Gregori) 4:42.02
27. Erik Sousa (Turlock) 4:49.14
34. Javi Lara (Turlock) 4:56.57

VG 3200m
Kim Ruvalcaba (Riverbank) had a HUGE PR by placing 14th with a time of 11:49.89. Just think...if she stopped running hurdles and really trained for this event the sky could be the limit for her.

VB 3200m
11. Mario Medina (Gregori) 9:51.62 also a big PR
15. Jonathen Beliera (Riverbank) 10:12.19

  1. Great results. Way to go Kim Ruvalcaba. 11:49 is a great job. I have to disagree a little bit about the hurdles. Depending on how she is training, the hurdles might not be impeding her distance training at all. I've had a bunch of kids do distance and hurdles at HHS. One of them went on to become a reliable scorer for CSU Stanislaus in the Steeple. I've got a few girls right now that mostly train for the distances, then practice hurdle technique after their distance workout is done. I don't think the hurdling is impeding their progression as runners at all.
