With the new format the Masters meet is only one day with truly only the best of the best qualifying to get here and having the opportunity to qualify to State. I am not sure yet how I feel about the changes in the qualifying format. BUT in track the person who throws the furthest, jumps the highest, runs the fastest has always won regardless of school size...so it is difficult to argue against taking the fastest 12 (800) or 24 (1600 and 3200). The best athletes qualify end of story. No auto-qualifiers for any division. If D1 qualifies more and D5 qualifies less (it was already that way in the old system). School size is only a factor for a team comparison...athlete to athlete the size of the school should not be an advantage/disadvantage. Well that is my 2 cents. The top three in every event qualify for State unless the athlete meets the at-large qualifying mark.
