  1. What were your overall thoughts on the new structure? Seems like some deserving runners missed out because they ended up in a slower race.

    1. it was up to the runners to make that necessary time. They all knew that going in. What we ended up with was the top/fastest runners in each distance race with no gift entrants just because you are from a small school. It is different. It will take some time to get used to. Coaches and athletes will need to adjust their thinking. The meet at Hughes will be the end of the line for 90% of the top kids making Masters only for the elite who truly have a shot at going to State

  2. Definitely prefer the old structure over the new one. Super confusing for athletes and heavily favors D1 over all else. Feel bad for Sonora and Turlock especially

    1. The old process heavily favored D1. D1 got 10 entries in the old system and D5 was guaranteed only one. The actual entries to Masters from each division is not that different in the old process and in the new on with the exception of D5. I do not feel bad for Turlock at all. They are a large D1 school that for some reason gets to compete in the D2 bracket. They are winning D2 section championships and would likely not be winning in their appropriate D1 bracket. No more consolation entries into Masters from the D5...Masters is now truly a qualification trials to get to State. Yes Masters is now out of reach for anyone who is now elite. Previously 50% of the Masters qualifiers had zero chance of State qualifying and might even have gotten lapped in the 3200. Now the Divisional Finals will be that meet for most. That is why the SJS is trying to make it special by holding it in a larger venue with only the very best athletes (regardless of school size) moving to Masters...is it different, yes. Will it take a different thought process, yes...but in reality the best qualified for State in the old process and the best should still qualify
