This will be the first time I name an "All Frosh" distance track team. I have shuffled from covering just the StanCo schools to covering the full South SJS. I will name a first and second team for this region in the next few days...but this post is exclusively focusing on the rookies, the newbies, the freshmen. There are time standards that I have used in order for a runner to make the All StanCo Track team. Expanding out to the full South SJS I am keeping those same standards. But for the frosh those times needed to be relaxed a bit. So the times from the frosh boys were 2:10 (800), 4:45 (1600), and 10:30 (3200). On the frosh girls side those times were 2:30, 5:45, and 12:30. To make the "First Team" the runner needed to hit all three of the frosh standards. For the "Second Team" it was necessary to hit at least two of the required marks. Since this is my first time naming this "All Frosh" team I am certainly open to feedback on the process.
FIRST TEAM FROSH ALL SOUTH SJS DISTANCE
PORTER PETTY (Turlock) 9th--Porter was the only boy to hit all three marks. He almost ran fast enough in a couple of the events to hit the regular track standards. His best times were 2:02.37 in the 800, 4:35.84 in the 1600, and 10:19.94 in the 3200.
ANNIE SERVIN (Beyer) 9th--Annie did make the 2nd team regardless of grade but for the frost she hit all three of the key standards: 2:22.44, 5:20.80, and 11:46.22.
JAYLYN CARRILLO (Patterson) 9th--just like Annie, Jaylyn hit the full South SJS marks for the 1600 and 3200. For the frosh she achieved all three of the required times: 2:25.98, 5:14.53, and 10:50.25. That 3200m time ranks an amazing #11 all time for the South SJS.
ANAHI RUIZ VELASCO (Beyer) 9th--Anahi also hit the full standards in the 1600 and 3200. In fact her best 3200 (10:59.43) ranks #21 all time for the South SJS. Her best times hit all three of the frosh requirements: 2:26.43, 5:09.07, and 10:59.43.
SECOND TEAM FROSH ALL SOUTH SJS DISTANCE
ADEN CAVANAUGH (Oakdale) 9th--Aden had a huge PR at the VOL Championship meet which qualified him for the full team. His sub 10 time in the 3200 made him only the third frosh in the last 20 years to meet that standard. As for the Frosh team he met the marks in the 1600-4:35.84 and 3200-9:59.45.
GISELA HERNANDEZ (Turlock) 9th--Gisela mostly focused on the 800 this season but I suspect that the 3200 would be her best event. She met the full 1600 time and two of the frosh times: 800-2:25.86 and 1600-5:19.66.
ROSELYNN DOMINGUEZ (Modesto) 9th--Roselynn hit the full standards for both the 1600 and 3200. Those she bettered both of the frosh marks in those two events. I suspect had she ever run an open 800 she would have hit that mark also and been on the first team. Her qualifying times were 5:08.62 and 11:21.00.
ZOI ANN MORAITIS (Beyer) 9th--You can see above the Zoi Ann has some great young teammates to train with. Her best times in the 1600-5:35.69 and 3200-12:19.62 best both of the frosh standards.
TENLEY WYLIE (Oakdale) 9th--Tenley oscillated between competing Frosh and competing varsity this season. She did hit the full standard in the 3200. As for the frosh marks she hit two of them: 1600-5:36.26 and 3200-11:55.33.
CARMEN GONZALEZ (Johansen) 9th--Carmen ran F/S most of the year. Had she moved up to varsity, especially in the WAC Championship meet she might have hit the full times. But as it was she hit two of the frosh times (5:35.69 and 12:20.20)
