Some school were off from school this week. There was quite a number of interleague competition but far fewer invitationals compared to last week.
Maybe you don't have time to read through all of this so I am adding a new section that Ill call,
"Highlights for me this week" were:
1. Adriana Machado breaking 6 in the 1600 and setting a new school record at Delhi.
2. El Cap's Jerry Madrigal powered to a solo 1:57 in the 800.
3. Patterson's Natalie Arriaza goes sub 2:20 for the first time in the 800
4. Grace Benitez (Hughson) turns in a 2:28, 5:43, 12:48 triple in warrior-like fashion to help the Huskies beat Ripon.
5. Larson Wejmar (Turlock) had a huge PR in the 1600m to 4:23 which is a nbig league mark.
6. Enoch's Vince Wu PR'd in the 3200m at County Clash by 24 secs. He now has sub 10 in his sights which would be notable as only 2 StanCo frosh have broken 10 in the past 20 years.
7. Dominic Urteaga (Golden Valley) had a very busy week running 1:59, 4:29, 10:09 (twice) not even counting runs in the 400 or 4x8...I do hope he holds up through the season, this pace may not be sustainable.

FRI 3/27 COUNTY CLASH @ Oakdale HS, Oakdale.
The idea of County Clash as a multi county championship meet is a noble one that perhaps has out lived its time. The top StanCo team bypassed the county meet (and thus this meet). The MerCo meet was the same weekend as Dublin so the top distance runners didn't run at MerCo so didn't qualify for County Clash. So the distance races which could have been amazing were, well, under whelming. I truly believe that it isn't necessary to go to Fresno, the Bay, or Sac to find quality competition to produce fast times. If all of the best local athletes came together (the idea of this meet) the idea of this meet could be fulfilled. But if the local teams aren't going to be committed to that idea then maybe it is time to discontinue the meet all together.
