2025 XC Preview of SubSections

 

This post is a preview of the South SJS teams at Saturday's SubSection meet. I relied primarily on team and individual 5K rankings in Athletic.net. Therefore any ranking numbers that I included came from that source. The top 10 teams and the top ten individuals in each division will qualify for the Section Championship (SJS) meet.

 

 

D1 BOYS

StanCo teams in this division: Turlock, Gregori, Central Valley, Enochs, Downey, and Modesto.

Other local teams in this divisions: Mountain House.

 

Local Ranked Teams: 1. Davis Senior, 3. Turlock, 10. Modesto, 13. Enochs, 16. Gregori, 19. Mountain House.

 

Local Ranked Individuals: 1. Elias Thronson (Davis Sen), 8. Parker Whitemyer (Folsom), 11. Larson Wejmar (Turlock), 15. Zayn Hamilton (Turlock), 21. Porter Petty (Turlock), and 24. Gabriel Avalos (Turlock).

 

Teams Likey to Qualify: Turlock will qualify. Modesto at #10 I think will squeak in. The others will likely not qualify as teams.

 

Penwell

Individuals Likely to Qualify:  At #26 Gabe Penwell (Enochs) should get in. If MoHi doesn't qualify as a team then #28 Jovani Franco (Modesto) and #29 Ivan Rodriguez (Modesto) should qualify as individuals. #30 Grant Fahrney (Gregori) and #36 Cesar Bojorquez (Downey) will also likely qualify as individuals.

Teams Likey to Qualify: Turlock will qualify. Gregori has some internal issues this week so they are out of the picture which provides an opening for Modesto.

 

Dominguez

Individuals Likely to Qualify:  If Modesto doesn't make it as a team #20 Roselynn Dominguez (Modesto) should make it as an individual. #50 Kaylee Hartfield (Gregori) has an outside chance of qualifying.

Teams Likey to Qualify: Atwater should qualify. Merced is on the bubble.

 

Campos

Individuals Likely to Qualify:  If Merced doesn't qualify as a team then #17 Isaac Barragan (Merced) and #20 Camden Gudgel (Merced) should qualify as individuals. Additionally #10 Jace Campos (Pacheco), #22 Gio Mejia (Pacheco), #26 Dominic Urteaga (Golden Valley), and #39 James Barajas (Golden Valley) will all likely qualify.

Avery Carlson (Pitman), 15. Jymena Nguyen Marquez (Grace Davis), and 19. Chelsea Chavez (Golden Valley).

Teams Likey to Qualify: Golden Valley qualifies. The others (Pitman, Atwater, Merced) would need a semi miricle and some spectacular races to get in.

 

Hampton and Llamas

Individuals Likely to Qualify:   This is a tough division is be an individual with #2 Natalie Arriaza (Patterson), #3 Eleanor Hampton (Merced), #5 Lean Llamas (Buhach Colony), #11 Avery Carlson (Pitman), and #15 Jymena Nguyen Marquez (Grace Davis) are all likely to qualify as individuals...that leaves only 5 more spots. So #27 Melanie Rodriguez Ventura (Patterson),  #33 Nayeli Mattison (Pitman), and #37 Lilianna Manzo (Atwater) would probably qualify in any other division but will have a harder time in D2. #45 Salome Gomez Zuluaga (Atwater) will very likely end up on the outside of the qualifying.

Local Ranked Teams: 1. Pondorosa, 2. Oakdale, 3. Beyer, 8. Sierra, 15. Los Banos, 16. Lathrop, 19. Ceres.

 

Local Ranked Individuals: 1. Andres Lomeli (Kimball), 6. Hayes Terry (Beyer), 7. Christian Gonzalez (Sierra), 8. Sean Muturi (Oakdale), 9. Havyn Bartell (Beyer), 14. Quinn Baca (Oakdale), 15. Yuushi Kennedy (Beyer), and 18. Weston McGhee (Oakdale)

 

Teams Likey to Qualify: Oakdale and Beyer should both cruise and qualify. Oakdale has some injury issues that may cause them to slide to 5th or 6th but qualification is not in doubt.Sierra should also get in.

 

Gier

Individuals Likely to Qualify: #21 Riley Gier (Lathrop) will qualify. #45 Sergio Torres (Ceres) has an outside chance of getting in.

Local Ranked Individuals: 1. Alyssa Gutierrez (St Francis), 7. Addison Wylie (Oakdale), 12. Anna Dittman (Sierra), 15. Tyleah Badea (Beyer), and 24. Tenley Wylie (Oakdale).

 

Teams Likey to Qualify:Beyer and Oakdale (suffering some injuries) will qualify. Sierra is on the bubble. 

 

Dittman

Individuals Likely to Qualify:  If Sierra doesn't qualify as a team them #12 Anna Dittman (Sierra) and #38 Monse Saavedra will likely get in as individuals.

Teams Likey to Qualify: Hughson and Riverbank should both cruise into SJS. Ripon has a tougher road but likely will qualify. 

 

Wilson

Individuals Likely to Qualify: #3 Landon Wilson (Sonora) and #20 Moises Cortes Garcia (Livingston) should qualify. #28 Gabriel Zamorano (Venture Academy) could qualify. If Ripon doesn't qualify as a team then # 31 Miguel Acosta-Pearson (Ripon) might get an individual spot. #41 IannWendt (Calaveras) and #42 Joseph Garcia (Orestimba) have a very outside shot.

Teams Likey to Qualify: Hughson, Hilmar and Riverbank will all qualify. Calaveras and Ripon are the ones near the bubble.

 

Dean

Individuals Likely to Qualify: #15 Demiree Dean (Sonora), #18 Samantha DeLaCruz, #24 Abigail Mezashould qualify. If Calaveras doesn't qualify as a team the #26 Lisa Lee (Calaveras) should get in. Same could be said for #31 Sophia Jung if Ripon doesn't make it she might.

Local Ranked Individuals:1. David Avila (Millennium), 2. Ryden Rivera (Summerville), Esai Vasquez (Summerville), 5. Mateo Quinonez (Central Catholic), 6. Noah Watson (ABLE), 9. Matijs Zylstra (Ripon Christian), 11. Ryan Jackson (Central Catholic), 12. Nate Johnson (Summerville), 13. Peyton Heermance (Bret Harte), 14. Matthew Nord (Bret Harte), 15. Robert Weller (Summerville), 16. Jonathan Palafox (Central Catholic), 20. Malachi Arnold (Big Valley), 21. Sal Virgen (Denair), and 25. Isaac Rios Torres (ABLE).

 

Teams Likey to Qualify: Summerville, Central Catholic, and Big Valley should have no problem qualifying. Bret Harte, Ripon Christian, ABLE, and Denair are the bubble teams. Three of them will probably qualify...one will not. Denair has had some personnel issues and could be that team on the outside. 

 

Virgen

Individuals Likely to Qualify: #6 Noah Watson (ABLE) and #25 Isaac Rios Torres (ABLE) may both get in as individuals if they don't get that team spot. If Denair doesn't qualify as a team #21 Sal Virgen (Denair) should qualify. #40 Jose Ponce (Denair) and #41 Abraham Felix (Waterford) have an outside possibility of getting in.

Local Ranked Individuals: 1. Josephine Krulick (Vacaville Christian), 3. Emma-Lynn Hogan (Central Catholic), 4. Payton Snavely (Sunnerville), 6. Amy Garcia Aguirre (ABLE), 11. Elizabeth Rich (Ripon Christian), 14. Jocelyn Lloyd (Summerville), 20. Brianna Hancock (Central Catholic), 23. Emma Kurz (Summerville), and 24. Ayla Jodie (Bret Harte).

Individuals Likely to Qualify:  #6 Amy Garcia Aguirre (ABLE) and #31 Julee Arreguin (Waterford) should both qualify. #45 Alizey Gonzalez (Denair) has a long shot.
