WEEK 11 TRACK (MMC, Scholarship Presentation, TVL, SAL, WAC)

A busy week for me included Tuesday at the MMC Championship meet, Wednesday at Riverbank's Senior Awards Night, Thursday at the TVL Finals, and Saturday at the WAC Championship meet in Patterson.

Next week is even busier with the D4/5 Section meet at Cesar Chavez HS in Stockton on Tuesday and Thursday. I am at the D1 Section meet Wednesday and Friday at Elk Grove HS--that will be 4 nights in a row all out of town...but oh how great those distance races will be.

WED  5/9/18  RIVERBANK SENIOR AWARDS NIGHT, Riverbank HS, Riverbank
Several months previous I had decided to award a $500 scholarship to a StanCo Distance runner. I created an application and sent it out to the County's coaches. I spoke to athletes who would qualify. I read through the 5 applications and essays that I received. I agonized over the decision. On this night it would all culminate as I was honored to present Carlos Aguilera (Riverbank) with the first ever StanCo Distance Scholarship.

3. Destiny Suarez (Ceres) 5:45.50

VB 1600m
This race came down to a wild finishing sprint. However the officials had hurdles on the track for all but the two inside lanes. With three people sprinting to the line there was not enough space for Joseph Gutierrez to get around the other two runners. Needless-to-say the Ceres Coach was very unhappy with the way things unfolded
