WEEK 9 (League Championship Week)

An insanely busy week for me with every StanCo team in action. I attended three meets in 3 days and took about 3500 photos.

WED 10/25 CCC CHAMPIONSHIP, DONNELLY PARK, TURLOCK

The CCC this season was dominated by Merced and Atwater. The Turlock ladies who had high aspirations at the start of the season always seemed to be just a bit short. Both the Pitman and Turlock boys were in a rebuilding situation prior to next year's jump over to the MMC. The final meet was no different than the prior two.

VARSITY GIRLS
The Merced and Atwater ladies battled to the final finisher for the league title. Turlock slipped to 4th in this meet.

WED 10/25 TVL CHAMPIONSHIP, LEGION PARK, MODESTO
I would have thought that the girls team title was all settled with Hughson easily winning the first two meeting. But the Huskies would toe the line without two of their top five. Their main competition, Ripon would be missing their #1 runner too. The Huskies would prevail in this instance. On the boy's side Escalon had won the first two races (narrowly) and Riverbank had been second. The Bruins would nip both Escalon and Hilmar in perhaps the tightest, most competitive battle I have seem in quite some time.

WED 10/25 VOL CHAMPIONSHIP, EAGAL LAKE, TRACY

VARSITY GIRLS
Some of the young talent that the Mustangs had last season, chose not to compete this season, dramatically changing the fortunes of Oakdale. Legan finishes strong and may be the lone Oakdale competitor in two weeks at SJS.

WED 10/25 WAC CHAMPIONSHIP, RIVER PARK, CERES
I predicted at the beginning of the year that this may be the year for the CV Hawks. Their VBs  indeed swept through the WAC. At the Championship meet their dominance would be complete with an easy victory.

VARSITY GIRLS
LosBanos' up front running has dominated the competition all season and today was no different.

THUR 10/26 SAL CHAMPIONSHIP, LEGION PARK MODESTO

VARSITY GIRLS
Jaecelyn Romero and Madeline Tree have gone head to head all season with each getting the better of the other at different meets. Tree went out hard (probably too hard) and faded as Romero seemed to get stronger. Team titles are decided by the total team wins over the 3 meets.

VARSITY BOYS
The boys individual race was all about could Jonathan Staley hold off his teammate Adal Robles. Adal had outkicked Jonathan in the previous two SAL meets. In this meet Jonathan hung on for the victory. The team race was even closer. Delhi and Waterford would end up tied and the total championship would come down to the 6th man in today's meet--which Delhi won.

FRI 10/27 MMC CHAMPIONSHIP, LEGION PARK, MODESTO

VARSITY GIRLS
For the varsity girls it has been all about the depth of Downey all season. The Knights would place 5 in the top 9 to easily take the team win. Gregori places 2nd, Modesto 3rd and Enochs 4th

1. Madison Kackley (Gregori) 19:21 #12 all-time
2. Makaelyn Bickel (Downey) 19:36
3. Esme Aguayo (Downey) 19:59

8. Myrka Banuelos (Modesto) 20:55
9. Meghann Lofing (Downey) 21:02
10. Sienna Espinoza (Gregori) 21:05

VARSITY BOYS
for the VBs it has been all Gregori all year. The Jags put seven in the top 11 to crush the rest of the league. Modesto and Downey would tie for 2nd place for the season and Enochs placed 4th.

Individually only 3 MMC boys had ever broken 16 flat on this course. Given the unseasonably warm day, fast times seemed unlikely. But Santiago Ruiz and Mason Reeves took off from the gun. There would be no games today. This race would be about making a statement and leaving a legacy.  Both boys would go way under 16 and cement their status.

1st team all MMC VB
1. Santiago Ruiz (Gregori) 15:42.7 #2 all-time
2. Mason Reeves (Gregori) 15:43.2 #4 all-time
3. Moises Benavides (Downey) 16:15 #13 all-time
