WEEK 11 (MMC, TVL, SAL, WAC)

A busy and windy week of championship meets. In the MMC the top 4 individuals qualify to the D1 trials on Wednesday 5/17 at Elk Grove HS. The qualifying 1600m and 3200m runner go straight to the finals on Friday 5/19 at Elk Grove HS. For the TVL and WAC runners the top 3 qualified (although I heard someone at the WAC say for them it was top 4) for the D45 trials at Stan St, Turlock on Tuesday 5/16. Again the 1600m and 3200m runners go straight to the finals which will be Thursday 5/18 also at Stan St.

5/11 TVL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Ripon HS, Ripon
Participating StanCo teams were Hughson, Riverbank, and Modesto Christian. This meet experienced some major timing issues that took about 45 min to resolve. The wind was also a huge issue for all the distance runners hampering what could have been some very fast times.

 VG 800m

Fife takes 2nd in the 800m
2. Emily Fife (Hughson) 2:28.34

9. Kylee Sullivan (Hughson) 2:48.89

VG 1600m
What was expected to be a major duel between Fife and Herandez didn't materialize when Fife bolted on the second lap to easily take the victory without any real challenge.

I am certain that Campos would have easily broken 12 without the stiff wind. She has only grown stronger throughout the track season.

Ysias, Langley, and Campos in the 3200m
1. Esmeralda Campos (Hughson) 12:06.73
3. Elizette Ysias (Hughson) 12:28.99
4. Kinsey Langley (Hughson) 12:36.08

VB 3200m
Carson Boice found a determination that has been lacking for much of the season to power through the wind and out lean a very game Frosh from Hilmar to take the narrow victory.

5/12 SAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Atwater HS, Atwater
You know I always look at the SAL cluster results hoping that someone from one of the StanCo schools (Waterford, Orestimba, Denair) produces a time fast enough to be worth reporting. I know that these are small schools that have fewer numbers to draw from, but I am reporting individual times here...Friday night, I am certain that the wind had to be a factor in the times also.

5/13 WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, Pacheco HS, Los Banos
Participating StanCo teams were Ceres, Central Valley, and Patterson. I am going to opine for a moment. Pacheco HS has a beautiful facility and first look. There are some major and minor issue if one looks closer. I'm not even going to get into those. There were two big issues that affected everyone at this meet: 1. the tornado type wind (no one's fault) 2. the complete ineptitude of the timers--this meet took over 8 hours. The hurdle races alone took over 90 min to complete; the 200s took at least that long too. As a distance runner I am unsure how you could possibly time your warm up in such a situation. This was not a dual meet. When the times and timing really matters perhaps you should hire someone who knows how to use the equipment properly--the athletes deserve better than what they received at this meet. I am done now.

  1. Thanks for all you do, Scott! I know those shirts mean a lot to the kids and I know that the kids who never get shirts love seeing their pictures on here.

Now, on to the post season
