State Meet

Today (11/28/15) was the CIF State XC Championship meet at Woodward Park in Fresno. I grew up in Fresno. We would train at Woodward at least once a week. The second mile of the course was slightly different back then, but the first and third miles are mostly unchanged. Well, the path is twice as wide now; and where there were once rolling hills, millions of waffled soled running shoes have smoothed out the terrain. So, the day definitely brought back memories for me.

Only ten StanCo athletes competed today: The seven Hughson Varsity Girls (Priscilla Fernandes, Kinsey Langley, Heavyn Herroz, Emily Fife, Esmeralda Campos, Abigayle Mitchell, and Taylor Gray), Kim Ruvalcaba (Riverbank), and Marc Alania and Orlando Cardenas both from Modesto High.

The course today was smoking fast. In some past years these same times would have placed maybe 10 places higher.

In the D4 Girls race Kim Ruvalcaba (Riverbank) led the seven Hughson girls through what would turn out to be a blistering 5K race. Ruvalcaba's time of 18:35 places her at #9 all-time for StanCo runners over this course.

Behind Kim The Husky girls were working hard. They placed 17th out of 23 teams, but weren't very many points from 13th place. Kinsey Langley led the way, but Abigayle Mitchell and Emily Fife weren't far behind.

Ruvalcaba
22. Kim Ruvalcaba (Riverbank) 18:35.0

The only other StanCo runners were the two Modesto High seniors in the D1 race. they started in the middle of the pack and mostly maintained that position through out the race.
